It's that time of year again when this curious little meeting takes place, the ANNUAL MEETING OF THE PARISH. It's a hangover from 1894 believe it or not, when there was a big shake up of local government and parish councils were created, but PARISH MEETINGS were also kept and the law says that a place must hold a meeting at least once a year. Where there is a parish council in the area, then the Chair of the parish council can call the meeting. The purpose of the meeting is for those who are on the electoral roll to meet and bring any issues they wish to pursue to the attention of the meeting. So, you are all invited to come along, but you need to be on the electoral roll if a suggestion is put forward that requires a vote (also called a poll).
