Many of you will know that Cllr. Margaret Lockhart recently passed away. This means that there is a vacancy on Elton Parish Council and the process for filling it is now notified. For fourteen days, the notice will be displayed and this allows anyone on the voting list (electoral roll) to gather together nine more voters and request that a by-election is held to elect a new councillor. If, at the end of the 14 days this has happened then there will be a call for people to stand as candidates and if more than one person puts their name forward then an election will be set in motion. If only one person puts themselves forward then that person will be elected uncontested and become the new councillor. If there is no call by ten electors for a by-election then, at the end of the 14 day period the vacancy will remain and the parish council will put in motion its Co-Option procedure to fill the vacancy.
The Vacancy notice is attached, along with a form that can be used to request an election.
If you need any information about the process, then please do get in touch.
