One of our councillors has stepped down, so this creates what is called a Casual Vacancy.A notice is posted which lets residents know that there is a vacancy and invites them to apply to Cheshire West and Chester if they would like the vacancy filled by election. There must be at least ten residents calling for an election to trigger one. If an election is called then there will be other notices to ask for candidates to come forward and an election will be held – you will get a voting card and attend your local polling station to cast your vote. If, 14 days after the notice is posted, no residents or less than 10 residents have called for an election, then there will be no election and instead the parish council will ask interested people to come forward and the parish council will be responsible for choosing the next councillor (this is called co-option). SO this is the waiting time to see if an election is called. Check back in two weeks and we'll let you know if there will be an election or a co-option, Look to the right to see the official legal notice.
