Councillor Vacancy Oct 2026

We have just said farewell to Cllr. Steve Serna and that means there is a vacancy process in play. There is an opportunity for those on the electoral roll to ask for a by-election to be called. There is a period of fourteen working days from today for ten electors or more to petition Chesire West and Chester council for an election to be called to fill the vacancy.
If an election is called then the next step will be that people will need to put themselves forward for nomination. If two or more people put themselves forward then there will be an election. If less than two people put themselves forward then they will be elected uncontested and have a place on the parish coucnil.
If there is no call by ten electors for an election then, at the end of the 14 day period the vacancy will remain and the parish council will put in motion its Co-Option procedure to fill the vacancy.
The Vacancy notice is attached, along with a form that can be used to request an election.
If you need any information about the process, then please do get in touch.
